Robin Williams

Curiosity Journal 8

The highly popular comedian/actor I chose to research and write about goes by the name Robin Williams. It was somehow easy to choose Williams over other comedians because he is outstandingly funny and well known by so many people for his stand-up comedy, television shows and the long list of successful movies he’s starred in. I favor him over many because he has brought many smiles to my life with his comedy. Not only that but he has gone through many obstacles in his life that I can relate to. After doing research over Williams I learned many things about his rollercoaster of a life. The comedian was born Robin Laurin Williams was born on July 21, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois. His mother was a former model from Mississippi and his father was a Ford model Company executive from Indiana. At the age of 16 he and his family moved to California where he continued his education. Later on he moved to New York with a scholarship to the Julliard School to continue his path to become an actor. After contemplating on what he wants to do, Williams chose to pursue in the direction of stand-up comedy.
Williams went back to California and began stand-up comedy where people began laughing at what he had to say. Let me tell you, Williams is hysterical with his improvisational acting. He impersonates people and objects extremely well and he quickly began to become the crowd’s favorite. He began landing Television show spots. He later caught a big break a landed his own television show named “Mork and Mindy”. Unfortunately, Robin had been doing drugs and alcohol at this time and took him a couple decades to alleviate. After this everything went uphill for Williams. In 1980 he got the opportunity to star in the movie Popeye (1980). William’s was finally doing acting as he always wanted to do. Not everything was uphill to Robin, throughout his life he was involved in many romantic relationships which wouldn’t always work out. He had 3 children whose names are Zachary, Zelda and Cody.
Williams kept on working and working, continuing to make many great films. The 90’s is where he made many movies I love and changed my childhood for the better. I was fascinated with movies like Disney’s Aladdin (1992), Toys (1992), Mrs Doubtfire (1993), Jumanji (1995) and Flubber (1997). These are movies I’ve seen countless of times and have brought plenty of great memories and people into my life. After winning many Oscars and Academy Awards, Williams suffered from a drug relapse and admitted himself into rehabilitation in 2006. A year later he was free and ready to keep making popular films such as Night at the Museum (2006) and Old Dogs (2009). Williams has not only gained my love and respect but as much as 40 awards including an Oscar which he was nominated 50 times. Bringing much joy and happiness to people’s life, Robin Williams gave the world the great gift of laughter and smiles. Unfortunately, on August 11, 2014, Williams was announced dead in his home in California. It was said that Robin was dealing with severe depression. If only he knew how much happiness his given all his audience. Robin Williams will not be forgotten and his movies are gifts that we will always remember.
